The Luke Chibueze Adonwe Humanitarian (LACH) Foundation has announced new measures to end street begging in Ebonyi State through training and empowerment programs for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Founder and Director-General of the Foundation, Apostle Barr. Luke Chibueze Adonwe, disclosed this at a meeting with PWD representatives from Abakaliki, Ebonyi, Izzi, and Ohaukwu local government areas of Ebonyi North Zone.
During the meeting, the Foundation appointed the zonal chairman of the PWDs, Comrade Nwalo Moses, as a staff member responsible for representing PWDs within the organization. He will receive a salary and upkeep allowance.
Adonwe said the Foundation would roll out sensitisation and skill acquisition programmes to help PWDs earn a living with dignity, rather than resort to begging.
> “There are abilities in disabilities,” he said. “We will engage with persons with disabilities and train them in various fields of endeavour to enable them to generate their own income.”
The DG also announced plans to establish a permanent home at the Foundation’s site in Nwomilla, Mgbalukwu community, Izzi Local Government Area. The facility, he said, will provide medical and social care for the elderly, childless, homeless, unmarried, motherless, and PWDs, adding that the Foundation would take responsibility for the welfare and burial of residents who die in its care.
Adonwe stressed that with government collaboration, the Foundation would work to clear beggars from the streets of Nigeria, starting with Ebonyi State.
The Foundation will formally launch its fundraising scheme on November 29, 2025, at the Pastoral Centre, Abakaliki, beginning at 10 a.m.
