In a renewed drive to uphold human dignity and social justice, the Luke Chibueze Adonwe Human (LACH) Foundation has partnered with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State Council, to combat illegal child adoption, street begging, and other social ills in the state.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the NUJ Secretariat in Abakaliki on Tuesday, the Executive Director of LACH Foundation, Barr. Luke Chibueze Adonwe, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to restoring humanity through compassion, justice, and empowerment.
Adonwe highlighted the Foundation’s numerous humanitarian interventions, including the rescue and rehabilitation of destitute persons, provision of free legal services to the indigent, and advocacy for the rights of women and children.
“We have recovered and rehabilitated several victims of neglect and exploitation, including a woman who lived in a refuse dump for over a year. Our mission is to promote human welfare through legal advocacy, social justice, and empowerment that transform lives,” he stated.
He further disclosed that LACH Foundation is collaborating with traditional rulers, law enforcement agencies, and professional bodies to address the menace of street begging, illegal child adoption, and the abuse of vulnerable groups.
“We are engaging people living with disabilities to take them off the streets by providing them with skill acquisition opportunities that enable them to earn a living with dignity. We are also developing a framework to prevent child theft and illegal adoption through effective social welfare monitoring and support systems,” Adonwe added.
The Foundation, according to him, also plans to establish homes for the aged and extend care to widows, orphans, and other vulnerable persons across Ebonyi State.
Adonwe called for stronger media collaboration in humanitarian storytelling, human rights advocacy, and public awareness campaigns aimed at strengthening community participation in nation-building.
Responding, Chairman of NUJ, Ebonyi State Council, Comrade Samson Nwafor, represented by the Vice Chairman, Comrade Moses Erogu, commended the Foundation’s initiatives and pledged the Union’s full support.
“The humanitarian work you are doing aligns with the core values of journalism — to uphold human dignity and ensure accountability in governance. The NUJ will stand by you, report your activities, and help create public awareness that sustains this noble cause,” Nwafor said.
He assured the Foundation of continued collaboration through media coverage and advocacy, describing the initiative as “a divine assignment deserving of institutional support.”
Also speaking, the Internal Auditor of the NUJ, Ebonyi State Council, Comrade Angela Ekuma reaffirmed the Union’s readiness to partner with the Foundation and urged members to continue promoting values that advance humanity in the state and beyond.
The visit, which featured members of the LACH Foundation’s volunteer network, ended with an invitation to the organization’s grand unveiling, fundraising, and book launch scheduled for November 29, 2025, in Abakaliki.
