Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has described the defection of Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a bold and visionary step towards strengthening national unity and accelerating regional transformation.
Governor Nwifuru made this declaration via his verified social media handle on Tuesday shortly after joining the national leadership of the APC in Enugu to formally welcome Governor Mbah into the ruling party.
In his statement, Nwifuru hailed the move as a defining moment for Enugu State and the Southeast region, emphasizing that Mbah’s decision aligns with the broader vision of inclusive governance and national integration.
“Governor Mbah’s decision to join the APC is a welcome development that signals a bold step toward deeper collaboration and national cohesion,” Nwifuru wrote.
“His visionary leadership in Enugu State is already making a positive impact, and with this realignment, even greater opportunities will emerge to consolidate and expand the good work for the people of Enugu," he further stated.
He reaffirmed the APC’s dedication to people-centered governance under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing the party’s readiness to work with credible leaders across the country.
“As Progressives, we remain committed to people-oriented governance, inclusive growth, and a united vision for a stronger Nigeria,” the Ebonyi governor stated.
Governor Mbah’s defection, confirmed during a high-profile event attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and several APC governors, is widely regarded as a significant political shift in a region long dominated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mbah, a technocrat and reform-driven leader, is expected to play a key role in advancing the APC’s policy direction in the Southeast.
His move is also seen as a strategic boost to the party’s grassroots consolidation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Political observers believe the defection sends a strong signal of shifting allegiances and growing support for the APC’s national agenda across geopolitical zones.
