RL: Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, and Comrade Douglas Ochishi, NYCN Boss, Ebonyi State chapter.
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ebonyi State Chapter, has commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for presenting the 2026 “Budget of Actualisation and Hope,” totaling ₦884 billion, describing it as a milestone in citizen-focused governance.
In a press statement issued following the presentation of the budget proposal to Ebonyi residents, Comrade Douglas Ochishi, Chairman of NYCN Ebonyi State Chapter, lauded the Governor for taking the unprecedented step of presenting the budget directly to citizens.
He described it as a strong demonstration of participatory democracy.
“By involving residents in the budget process, the administration is promoting transparency, accountability, and meaningful public contribution to the state’s development,” Ochishi said.
The youth body highlighted that over 84 percent of the budget is earmarked for infrastructure and economic development, describing this allocation as transformative for Ebonyi State’s growth trajectory.
The council also applauded the establishment of a ₦150 billion state-owned cement factory, which is expected to stimulate industrial activity, generate employment, and strengthen the state’s economic base.
The NYCN further welcomed the introduction of a fair and equitable tax regime that exempts low-income earners while ensuring wealthier individuals contribute appropriately.
According to the council, this policy fosters social justice and creates a favorable environment for young entrepreneurs, artisans, and start-ups.
The council also commended Governor Nwifuru’s transparency regarding ongoing projects, citing the expansion of the VANCO Junction tunnel from 100 metres to over 840 metres as a demonstration of long-term planning and sustainable infrastructure development.
Nwifuru also announced a 27-day commissioning series scheduled from May 1–27, 2026, with the expectation that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will inaugurate key projects across the state during the period.
Comrade Ochishi reaffirmed that Ebonyi youths would continue to support the government’s vision, urging young people to remain engaged, focused, and committed to contributing to the state’s ambitious development agenda.
