The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections in Ebonyi State, High Chief Chukwuma Odii, has resigned his membership of the party.
Odii announced his resignation in a letter dated Thursday, January 1, 2026, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Amanator Ward, Isuachara, in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
In the letter, the former governorship candidate explained that his decision to leave the party followed wide consultations with his family and close associates. He stated that the decision was carefully considered and takes immediate effect.
“I write to officially inform you that, following wide consultation with my family and close associates, I have taken a considered decision to resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect,” the letter read.
Odii expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the PDP for providing him with the opportunity and platform to contest the 2023 governorship election under the party’s banner. He noted that he remains grateful for the support, cooperation and goodwill he received during his time in the party.
“I wish to sincerely appreciate the leadership and members of the party for the opportunity and platform provided for me, which I utilised in contesting as a governorship candidate during the 2023 general election,” he stated.
He further thanked party members for their understanding and cooperation throughout his engagement with the PDP, urging them to accept the letter as his formal notice of resignation.
Odii’s resignation marks a significant development in the political landscape of Ebonyi State, coming three years after the 2023 general elections. As of the time of filing this report, he has not disclosed his next political move or whether he plans to join another political party.
