Two people have been confirmed dead following a road traffic accident involving world-renowned boxer, Anthony Joshua, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Makun area of Ogun State on Monday.
The accident reportedly occurred just before Danco Filling Station, near the Sagamu Interchange inward Ibadan axis, according to eyewitness accounts.
Joshua was said to be traveling in a Lexus Jeep with registration number KRD 850 HN when the vehicle collided with a stationary truck parked along the busy highway. The exact cause of the crash remains unclear as authorities have commenced investigations.
An eyewitness, Adeniyi Orojo, who was also part of the rescue effort, confirmed that two individuals died on the spot, while Anthony Joshua reportedly sustained minor injuries and was promptly attended to by rescuers.
“The crash happened suddenly. The vehicle hit a stationary truck, and two people died instantly,” Orojo said.
Photos from the scene showed the truck involved in the collision as rescue officials and bystanders worked to clear the area and assist victims.
Following news of the incident, fans and supporters of the boxer flooded social media with messages expressing concern over his condition.
Efforts to reach the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) Commandant, Akinbiyi Babatunde, for official confirmation and further details were unsuccessful as calls to his phone were not returned at the time of filing this report.
Authorities are expected to release more information as investigations continue.
