The Labour Party in Ebonyi State has reaffirmed its determination to present a credible and people-oriented alternative ahead of the 2026 local government elections, as concerns continued to trail the conduct of the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC).
Speaking in Abakaliki, Labour Party chieftain and 2023 House of Representatives runner-up for the Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency, Dr. Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh, called on EBSIEC to demonstrate transparency and strict adherence to its electoral guidelines to dispel growing suspicions from opposition parties.
Ezeh’s remarks followed reports that the Chairman and Secretary of EBSIEC declined to meet with Labour Party stakeholders led by Chief Henry Udeh (AjimBest).
He described the action as unnecessary and avoidable, stressing that an electoral umpire must maintain open channels of engagement with all registered political parties to build confidence in the process.
He urged the Ebonyi State Government to guarantee the independence of EBSIEC, warning that any attempt to compromise due process or manipulate electoral procedures would be firmly and lawfully resisted by opposition forces determined to protect democratic values.
While acknowledging concerns circulating in some quarters over the alleged inaccessibility of nomination forms to certain political parties, Dr. Ezeh advised Ebonyians not to be discouraged.
He emphasized that the Labour Party remains focused on grassroots mobilization, internal organization, and building a broad-based opposition capable of competing effectively in the forthcoming elections
.
According to him, the party is committed to offering voters leaders who genuinely reflect their aspirations and are prepared to deliver accountable and people-centered governance at the local level.
Ezeh reaffirmed the Labour Party’s resolve to defend the constitutional rights of citizens to freely participate in the democratic process, noting that a transparent and credible election remains the cornerstone of sustainable development and public trust in governance.
