The Blessing Michael Foundation has extended humanitarian support to a Motherless Babies Home in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, reaffirming its long-standing commitment to assisting orphans, widows and other vulnerable members of society.
Speaking during the donation visit yesterday in Abakaliki, Founder of the foundation, Mrs Blessing Michael, said helping people has become a personal mission and a way of life, noting that the foundation has been actively involved in humanitarian service for over 15 years.
“Helping people is part of my life. I feel joy whenever I give. Of a truth, there is poverty and hardship in Nigeria, and it is important that government makes things better,” Mrs Michael said.
According to her, the foundation was born out of a deep passion for giving, a trait he said his friends had long identified as part of his character even before the formal establishment of the organisation.
“Giving to people is my life. When I told my friends I wanted to start this foundation, they told me it was already part of me,” she stated.
Items donated to the home included foodstuffs and basic necessities such as noodles, tissues, detergent, biscuits and beverages.
Michael described the items as a “little token,” adding that the foundation would continue to do its best within available resources.
“I may not be dressed very well, but with this little gift I can offer for now, I am happy. I have decided to do what makes me happy, and giving to people makes me happy,” he said.
The philanthropist used the opportunity to call for stronger collaboration between government, individuals and private organisations, stressing that humanitarian work cannot be sustained by one person or group alone.
“I want government and individuals to partner with us to move the foundation forward, knowing fully well that we have many lives to touch,” she appealed.
She further clarified that the foundation’s support cuts across different groups in need, including orphans, widows and the less privileged, regardless of background.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Motherless Babies Home, Mrs. Rita Nwegede, a caregiver at the Motherless Babies Home under the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Ebonyi State Headquarters, expressed gratitude to the foundation.
Speaking on behalf of the management, she prayed for the donor, thanking her for remembering the children despite it being a weekend.
“On behalf of this foundation and the children, I say may God bless you. May God grant your heart’s desires for what you have done for these children,” she said.
The visit ended with prayers and appreciation from caregivers, as the children received the donated items.
