Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has commended the World Bank for implementing projects that directly impact the lives of citizens, assuring the institution of his administration’s commitment to sustaining its Impact Healthcare Programme in the state.
The Governor gave the assurance on Monday at the Government House, Abakaliki, while receiving a World Bank Mission Assessment Team on the Impact Project led by Mr. Onoriode Ezire.
Describing the intervention as unprecedented, Governor Nwifuru noted that the state was not merely benefiting from the project but celebrating its tangible results.
“This is the first time the World Bank is doing a project that we are celebrating, not only benefitting from,” the Governor said.
He explained that the programme aligns squarely with his administration’s People’s Charter of Needs Agenda, which prioritises people-oriented policies and infrastructure.
“If we see this type of project again from the World Bank, we will join. The impact of this project is being seen. It is in line with what our people want,” he stated.
Highlighting reforms in the health sector, Nwifuru declared that Ebonyi is now among states with functional healthcare facilities, citing massive investments in infrastructure and human resources.
According to him, the government has constructed staff quarters, improved hospital environments through landscaping, and ensured the provision of modern medical equipment.
“Our MRI machines, CT Scan and others are fully functional,” he affirmed.
The Governor further assured the delegation that the state government would not only sustain the project beyond its exit year but would also deepen its gains.
“We are not only going to complement your efforts, we are going to exceed your expectations. We have seen the benefit, we have seen the need for the project and we will sustain it,” he added.
Earlier, the Team Lead, Mr. Ezire, commended the Governor for what he described as remarkable strides in healthcare service delivery.
He thanked the Governor for the delivery of CT Scan and MRI machines, recruitment of 328 healthcare workers, and overall improvement in the state’s medical system.
“We are here to see how this programme can be sustained as it will be signed out this year. And also how we tell the success story of the Impact Programme,” Ezire said.
He further applauded the Governor’s insistence on excellence in medical service delivery, describing Ebonyi as a model of commitment to healthcare reform.
