As Nigerians celebrate Valentine’s Day 2026, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ebonyi State Chapter, has called on the youths of the State to observe the day responsibly and avoid actions that could jeopardize their future.
In a statement signed by Comrade Douglas Ochishi, Chairman of NYCN Ebonyi, the council reminded young people that while Valentine’s Day is often associated with love, gifts, and romantic gestures, it should also be a time to reflect on responsibility, self-worth, and long-term goals.
“Love is powerful. It builds homes, shapes destinies, and strengthens communities. However, when misdirected, it can also derail ambitions and distort futures,” Ochishi said.
He urged youths to avoid reckless behavior and social vices such as drug abuse, cultism, cybercrime, and peer pressure that could threaten their education, health, and overall wellbeing.
“Any affection that compromises your values, dreams, or safety is not love but it is distraction,” he noted.
Ochishi also addressed young women and men specifically, advising the ladies to protect their dignity and the men to show real strength through discipline, respect, and responsible leadership.
The NYCN Chairman further encouraged Ebonyi youths to channel their energy toward positive endeavors, including innovation, entrepreneurship, agriculture, technology, and community development.
“The future we desire will not be built by fleeting excitement but by focus, integrity, and hard work,” he emphasized.
The council’s Valentine’s Day message concluded with a call to celebrate love wisely, protect personal dreams, and express affection responsibly.
“On behalf of NYCN, Ebonyi State Chapter, I wish you a peaceful, joyful, and responsible Valentine’s celebration. Let love elevate you, and not endanger you,” Ochishi signed off.
