The Chief of Defence Staff, Retired Gen. Christopher Musa, has disclosed that the Nigerian Armed Forces have neutralized several key terrorist commanders and regained control of critical locations in ongoing operations against insurgents and bandits.
Speaking after a closed-door briefing for President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, Gen. Musa said the session allowed the military to provide an updated assessment of the security situation nationwide.
“The meeting was for the services to brief Mr. President on the current situation on ground. You know there have been a series of attacks, and the security forces have risen to the occasion,” Musa stated.
He added that the briefing also aimed to correct public misconceptions about recent developments, noting that media reports sometimes misrepresent the ground reality.
Gen. Musa commended President Bola Tinubu for his continued support to the armed forces and assured Nigerians that despite recent attacks, the military remains determined to secure the country.
“Our appeal to Nigerians is not to get tired and not to be discouraged… The terrorists and bandits are taking more casualties, and their commanders are being killed,” he said.
The Defence Chief acknowledged the loss of some military personnel during the operations, describing them as courageous officers whose sacrifice is regrettable but necessary in the fight for national security.
He also revealed that the President had approved additional equipment to enhance operational effectiveness, and security forces have adjusted strategies to counter emerging threats. Musa highlighted that terrorists often escalate attacks during Ramadan, believing their actions carry spiritual rewards, but stressed that the military continues to dismantle their networks.
Concluding, Gen. Musa reaffirmed the armed forces’ commitment to protecting Nigerians and urged troops to maintain operational momentum.
