The Ebonyi State Security Council has ordered the destruction of all shrines and deities in Amasiri Clan of Afikpo Local Government Area as part of decisive measures to restore law and order following the violent crisis between Amasiri and Okporojo communities.
Governor Francis Nwifuru announced the directive shortly after an expanded Security Council meeting held at the Old Government House, Abakaliki on Thursday.
According to the Governor, the Council resolved that stakeholders in Amasiri Clan must immediately identify and disclose the locations of all shrines and deities within the area to the State Government and relevant security agencies to facilitate their destruction.
The governor in a press release issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr Monday Uzor, noted that the decision forms part of the government’s broader security response aimed at dismantling structures believed to be contributing to violence, reprisals, and insecurity in the affected communities.
He further disclosed that the Security Council resolved that the curfew earlier imposed on Amasiri Community will remain in force until the severed heads of victims of the Okporojo killings are recovered.
Nwifuru emphasized that the continued enforcement of the curfew is necessary to enable security agencies carry out ongoing investigations and stabilization operations in the area.
The Council also resolved to implement the demarcation of the disputed boundary between Okporojo and Amasiri communities following the signing of an agreement by both parties.
To facilitate the process, the Ebonyi State Government has constituted a 19-member committee to carry out the boundary demarcation exercise.
The committee is headed by the State Commissioner for Border and Conflict Resolution, Prof. Paul Nwobashi.
Members of the committee included the Surveyor-General of the State, the Commissioner for Lands and Survey, the Commissioner for Primary and Secondary Education, the Chairmen of the Traditional Rulers Council in the thirteen Local Government Areas, and Dr. Boniface Chima.
Chief Sunday Oyibe will serve as Secretary of the committee.
The expanded Security Council meeting was attended by heads of security agencies, traditional rulers, members of the Elders Council, and stakeholders from Okporojo, Amasiri, Akpoha, and Afikpo communities.
The Ebonyi State Government reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace, ensuring justice for victims of the violence, and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
