The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration, signaling the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, the minister congratulated Muslim faithful across the country on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.
Tunji-Ojo urged Muslims to continue to uphold the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice, which are central to the observance of Ramadan. He emphasized the importance of allowing these values to guide interpersonal relationships and national life beyond the fasting period.
The minister also called on all Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the peace, unity, and continued prosperity of the nation. He noted that collective prayers and positive actions remain essential in building a more harmonious society.
While wishing Muslim faithful a joyful and fulfilling Eid-el-Fitr celebration, Tunji-Ojo encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and remember the less privileged through acts of kindness and charity.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government to promoting national unity, peaceful coexistence, and inclusive development across the country.
