The Federal Commissioner representing Ebonyi State in the Federal Character Commission, Barr. Vincent Nduka Nwokpor, has urged eligible youths from the state to take full advantage of the ongoing recruitment exercise into the Nigeria Police Force, describing the process as a critical pathway for strengthening both national security and equitable representation in federal institutions.
Nwokpor made the appeal while monitoring the recruitment exercise, emphasizing that active participation by Ebonyi youths is essential for the state to maximize its constitutionally guaranteed share under the federal character principle.
According to him, the ongoing enlistment into the Nigeria Police Force represents a strategic component of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to reinforce internal security architecture and expand the operational capacity of the country’s primary law enforcement agency.
He stressed that the recruitment process provides a legitimate platform for qualified young Nigerians to pursue careers in policing, contribute to national stability, and participate in safeguarding lives and property across the federation.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains the frontline institution responsible for internal security, crime prevention, intelligence gathering and law enforcement. It is therefore imperative that Ebonyi youths do not remain on the sidelines while such opportunities for national service and professional development are available,” Nwokpor said.
The Commissioner noted that the recruitment drive aligns with the security sector reform initiatives of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly under the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes strengthening security institutions through improved manpower, professionalization, and operational efficiency.
He further commended the leadership of the Federal Character Commission under its Chairperson, Hon. (Mrs.) Omidiran, describing her as a seasoned political figure and administrator whose stewardship has enhanced institutional discipline, transparency and professionalism within the Commission.
Nwokpor observed that the current composition of the Commission reflects a team of experienced technocrats and professionals committed to ensuring fairness, balance and national cohesion in federal recruitment and appointments.
Highlighting the constitutional mandate of the Commission, he explained that the Federal Character Commission is responsible for monitoring compliance with the federal character principle, which ensures that all states and geopolitical zones are fairly represented in federal institutions.
He noted that the Commission’s oversight of the police recruitment exercise is aimed at safeguarding transparency, preventing institutional bias and ensuring that merit, equity and due process guide the selection of successful candidates.
“The Commission’s presence in this exercise is to ensure that the principles of justice, equity and fairness are strictly upheld, and that every qualified Nigerian has equal access to opportunities within federal establishments,” he stated.
The Commissioner also expressed appreciation to the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for his support and confidence in nominating him to represent the state at the Federal Character Commission.
He landed the governor’s leadership style and commitment to promoting the interests of Ebonyi people within the national governance framework.
Nwokpor stressed that meaningful participation in federal recruitment processes remains one of the most effective ways for states to secure representation in strategic national institutions.
He therefore urged prospective applicants from Ebonyi State to approach the recruitment exercise with seriousness, discipline and integrity, noting that participation would not only enhance their personal career prospects but also strengthen the state’s presence within the country’s security sector.
The Commissioner assured that the Federal Character Commission would continue to carry out its statutory oversight responsibilities diligently, ensuring strict adherence to the principles of fairness, inclusiveness and national balance in all federal recruitment processes.
He added that sustained collaboration between the Federal Government, the Federal Character Commission and the Ebonyi State Government would further advance the ideals of justice, equity and national integration while reinforcing Nigeria’s institutional capacity to address contemporary security challenges.
