The All Progressives Congress (All Progressives Congress) in Ebonyi State has advised the opposition Africa Democratic Congress (Africa Democratic Congress) to resolve its internal leadership crisis before entertaining ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ruling party said the ADC’s recent parallel state congress, which produced two factional chairmen, is evidence of deep internal division that must be addressed urgently.
Two factions of the party reportedly emerged from the disputed congress held in Abakaliki, with one group electing Barr. Silas Onu as State Chairman, while another faction produced Mrs. Jennifer Adibe Nwafor in the same position.
Reacting to the development, the Ebonyi APC Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, urged the opposition party to focus on rebuilding unity rather than making declarations about defeating the ruling party in future elections.
Speaking through his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Prince Chijioke Agwu, Okoro-Emegha questioned the legitimacy crisis within the ADC, noting that the existence of parallel leadership structures reflects instability.
He challenged the party to clarify its authentic leadership in the state, stressing that such internal confusion weakens its credibility before the electorate.
“Ebonyi ADC should, first of all, resolve its internal crises before talking about 2027 general elections,” he said.
“They should tell Ebonyi people who their authentic State Chairman is between Adibe Nwafor and Silas Onu.
“In APC, our Chairman is Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, and there is no other person making claims to his position. That is how to know a party that is ready for elections.”
He further advised the opposition not to “waste energy” on attacking the APC or discussing electoral prospects, insisting that governance and party stability should take priority.
According to him, the APC remains confident of its support base in Ebonyi State, adding that Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s administration enjoys widespread acceptance and would be rewarded at the polls in 2027.
The comments came in the wake of heightened political positioning by parties in the state, as attention gradually shifts toward the next electoral cycle.
