The Wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, Mary Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru, has called on mothers to uphold strong moral values and promote unity within their families as a foundation for a better society.
Mrs. Nwifuru made the call during a church service marking this year’s Mothering Sunday celebration at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki, where she emphasized the critical role mothers play in shaping the character and future of their children.
Describing Mothering Sunday as a sacred occasion, she noted that it offers an opportunity to reflect on the immeasurable contributions of mothers to the home and society. According to her, motherhood embodies love, sacrifice, resilience, and a deep commitment to nurturing the next generation.
“Mothering Sunday reminds us of the invaluable role mothers play in building not just families, but the moral fabric of our society. It is a time to celebrate women who continually give their all to ensure their homes are peaceful, united, and grounded in righteousness,” she said.
The First Lady urged mothers to remain steadfast in prayer, discipline, and godliness, stressing that raising children with sound moral values is essential for the overall development of the state and the nation at large.
She added that motherhood goes beyond biological ties, describing it as a calling that requires patience, wisdom, compassion, and unwavering faith.
Mrs. Nwifuru also reaffirmed her commitment to supporting women through initiatives aimed at improving their health, economic empowerment, and general well-being.
She maintained that empowering women translates to stronger families and a more prosperous society.
She further appreciated her husband, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for his continued support and dedication to policies that promote the welfare and advancement of women across the state.
In his remarks, Governor Nwifuru charged mothers to embrace their responsibilities with confidence and dedication, urging them to instill good morals in their children. He also encouraged husbands to support their wives in building stable and harmonious homes.
The Governor stressed the importance of cooperation between parents in raising responsible children who will contribute positively to society, noting that a peaceful home remains the bedrock of a progressive community.
Delivering a homily, the Government House Chaplain, Rev. Jude Agama, advised mothers to remain committed to giving their children proper upbringing, urging them not to abandon their families despite challenges.
He emphasized the need for patience, perseverance, and faith in sustaining marriages and raising responsible citizens.
Mrs. Nwifuru also called on the wider society to support widows, single mothers, and women facing various challenges, encouraging acts of kindness and compassion in line with the spirit of the season.
She concluded with prayers for mothers, asking God to grant them wisdom, good health, and the grace to fulfill their roles effectively in the family and society.
