The Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), Ebonyi State Command, has called for strengthened collaboration with the Nigerian Army through intelligence sharing and joint operations to enhance security across the state.
The State Commander of NFSS, Larry Igwe made the call during a courtesy visit to the Cantonment Commander of Nkwagu Military Cantonment, Abakaliki, on Friday.
Speaking during the visit, Commander Igwe congratulated the newly appointed Cantonment Commander on his assumption of office, describing it as a significant step toward reinforcing security architecture in Ebonyi State.
He noted the visit marked a renewed push for inter-agency cooperation aimed at addressing both security and environmental challenges confronting the state.
The NFSS commander emphasized that the NFSS remains committed to supporting the Nigerian Army in safeguarding lives, property, and natural resources, particularly in forest reserves and rural communities where security challenges often persist.
According to him, the increasing threats of violent crimes and environmental degradation in the state require a unified approach driven by cooperation and intelligence-led strategies.
“The challenges we face today demand synergy, collaboration, and intelligence-driven operations. We are fully prepared to share information, coordinate patrols, and support joint missions that will strengthen security in both urban and rural areas,” he said.
Igwe further assured the Army of the readiness of NFSS personnel to commence patrols across cities, rural communities, forest regions, and other ungoverned spaces to assist in combating criminal activities.
As part of efforts to deepen cooperation, the NFSS Commander appealed to the Cantonment leadership to integrate the service into regular joint patrol operations. He also requested periodic tactical training and lectures from Army officers to enhance the operational capacity of NFSS personnel.
He expressed confidence in the leadership of the Cantonment Commander, noting that his tenure would promote professionalism, justice, and effective security management in the state.
Igwe added that a strong partnership between the NFSS and the Nigerian Army would not only curb criminality but also ensure environmental sustainability and economic stability for local communities.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the NFSS to a productive working relationship with the Army, stressing that collaboration remains key to building a safer and more secure Ebonyi State.
