The Chairman of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Mercy Nwogbala, has expressed confidence in the party’s chances of securing major electoral victories in the 2027 general elections, declaring that the party remains united, stable and strategically positioned for future political contests.
Nwogbala made the declaration shortly after emerging as the substantive state chairman of the party during the YPP state congress held on Saturday in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
The congress, which produced a new State Working Committee (SWC), followed the successful conduct of ward and local government congresses across the 13 local government areas of the state.
Speaking after the exercise, the elected chairman described the congress as peaceful, transparent and credible, noting that the process reflected the party’s commitment to internal democracy and consensus-driven leadership.
She stated that the congresses were conducted in accordance with the constitutional provisions of the party and supervised by the appropriate electoral committee alongside critical stakeholders.
According to her, ward congresses were held on May 21, local government congresses on May 22, while the state congress was concluded on May 23 with the emergence of the new leadership of the party in the state.
Nwogbala explained that delegates and party stakeholders adopted consensus and voice affirmation in electing officials at various levels, stressing that the process enjoyed overwhelming acceptance among members.
“The congresses were peaceful, transparent and credible. Our electoral committee conducted the exercise successfully from the ward level to the state level, and members freely affirmed leaders they considered capable of moving the party forward,” she said.
She maintained that the YPP remained one of the most stable political parties in the country, insisting that the party had continued to distinguish itself through internal cohesion, discipline and issue-based leadership.
“We do not have factions or internal crises. From the national level to the state structure, the party has remained united and focused on its vision and mission. That is why our members continue to have confidence in the leadership of the party,” she added.
The chairman further stated that the YPP was committed to expanding youth inclusion and broadening democratic participation, particularly among young people and women whom she said had remained largely marginalised in the nation’s political process.
She noted that the party was determined to provide a credible political platform for youths with leadership capacity and progressive ideas to contest elective positions and contribute meaningfully to governance.
“The Young Progressives Party remains a platform for young Nigerians who desire genuine change, inclusive governance and people-oriented leadership. The voice of the youths must be heard, and YPP is prepared to provide that opportunity,” she stated.
Nwogbala called on party faithful to remain steadfast, united and committed to the ideals of the party ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle, assuring that the new leadership would intensify grassroots mobilisation and strengthen party structures across the state.
She also commended the national leadership of the YPP for sustaining internal democracy, discipline and institutional stability within the party, noting that the leadership had continued to resist undue external influence capable of undermining the party’s ideology and cohesion.
The chairman expressed optimism that the YPP would emerge as a formidable political force in Ebonyi State and beyond, insisting that the party possessed the structure, manpower and political will required to secure victory in future elections.
Other members of the newly inaugurated State Working Committee, including the State Secretary, Emmanuel Nworie, were also inaugurated to pilot the affairs of the party ahead of the next political dispensation.
