The Silas Onu-led camp of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ebonyi State has rejected the outcome of a recent stakeholders' meeting where former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was reportedly endorsed for the 2027 presidential election, describing the gathering as unauthorized and lacking the mandate of the party.
The group also declared that Mrs. Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor is no longer the chairman of the ADC in Ebonyi State, insisting that her tenure expired on May 19, 2026.
In a statement signed by the alleged State Publicity Secretary, Prince Igu Idika, and made available to journalists in Abakaliki, the Onu-led camp said the meeting held at Vigo Event Centre, Abakaliki, and the resolutions reached therein do not represent the position of the party's recognized leadership in the state.
The statement was a reaction to reports titled "2027 Polls: Ebonyi ADC Backs Atiku, Launches Party Unity Drive," which emerged after the stakeholders' meeting allegedly convened by Hon. Tobias Nnabike Oriji, an acclaimed state ADC governorship candidate for the 2027 polls.
According to the statement, the authentic ADC primary elections in Ebonyi State were conducted on May 21 and 22, 2026, in line with the party's constitution and electoral guidelines.
The group maintained that individuals parading themselves as ADC candidates from the disputed meeting neither participated in nor emerged from the recognized primary elections conducted by the party.
It therefore described anyone laying claim to the party's ticket without participating in the primaries as an impostor with no mandate from the ADC.
"The authentic ADC primaries for the 2027 general elections were conducted by the duly recognized party structure in line with the ADC Constitution and Guidelines.
"Anyone claiming candidacy without participating in those primaries is an impostor and has no mandate from the party," the statement read.
The Onu-led camp further alleged that the meeting convened by Oriji was not an ADC gathering but an alleged APC-aligned assembly operating under the guise of an opposition platform.
It stated that no notice, approval or authorization was issued by the recognized ADC leadership in Ebonyi State for the meeting and, as such, all resolutions, endorsements, committee appointments and caretaker arrangements announced at the event remain null and void.
The group also insisted that any statement, endorsement or announcement made by Adibe-Nwafor-led group after May 19, 2026, was made in her personal capacity and does not bind the party.
Reaffirming its commitment to internal democracy and due process, the camp said it remains focused on building a credible opposition platform in Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It urged party members, the media and the general public to disregard all statements, resolutions and appointments emanating from the disputed meeting, insisting that only the recognized leadership of the party in the state has the authority to speak for the ADC.
