The African Democratic Congress (ADC) senatorial candidate for Edo North, Prince Musa Braimoh, has dismissed reports alleging that he is considering stepping down from the 2027 senatorial race in favour of incumbent Senator Adams Oshiomhole, describing the claims as false, malicious and politically motivated.
Braimoh's position was contained in a clarification statement issued on June 4, 2026, by his Chief Public Communication Officer, Comrade Dr. Kenneth Oshiogwemoh, on behalf of the candidate's media office.
The statement was a response to reports circulating in some quarters that the ADC candidate was engaged in negotiations to withdraw from the contest and support Oshiomhole, who currently represents Edo North Senatorial District in the Senate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Oshiogwemoh said there was no truth in the allegation, stressing that Braimoh remained firmly committed to his ambition of representing the people of Edo North in the National Assembly.
"It has come to our attention that some individuals are deliberately misleading the public with claims that Prince Musa Braimoh is in negotiations to step down in favour of Senator Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole. This assertion is entirely false, malicious and without any basis in fact," the statement read.
According to him, Braimoh's decision to seek the senatorial seat is driven by a desire to provide purposeful leadership, accountability and innovative representation for the people of the district.
The media aide noted that the ADC candidate had no plans to abandon his aspiration and urged supporters and members of the public to disregard what he described as fabricated reports aimed at creating confusion within the political space.
"We urge the public and our teeming supporters across Edo North and Nigeria to disregard this fabricated narrative. It is the work of political opponents threatened by his growing acceptance and the certainty of his victory at the polls," Oshiogwemoh stated.
He further maintained that Braimoh's campaign was focused on presenting an alternative vision for the district, anchored on competence, experience and service to the people.
"Prince Musa Braimoh's mission is to make history with a new era of purposeful representation rooted in experience, competence and service to the people," he added.
The clarification comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum across the country.
Braimoh of the ADC and Oshiomhole of the APC are expected to be among the leading contenders for the Edo North Senatorial seat. Both politicians hail from the Uzairue clan in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, setting the stage for what observers believe could be a keenly contested race in the district.
