The South East Development Commission (SEDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability in the implementation of its mandate, announcing plans to submit comprehensive procurement and financial records to the Senate Committee on or before June 23.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Mr. Mark Okoye, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Awka, Anambra State.
According to him, the documents to be presented include procurement records, contract details, payment schedules, and other supporting financial documentation as part of the Commission’s cooperation with ongoing legislative oversight.
Okoye explained that the move follows the Commission’s recent engagement with the Senate Committee on Development Commissions, chaired by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, where the SEDC management team appeared to brief lawmakers on its activities and financial operations.
He reiterated that the Commission remains fully committed to transparency, accountability, and adherence to due process in all its operations, stressing that all contracts awarded were executed in line with existing financial regulations.
Speaking further on the rehabilitation of the Commission’s headquarters, Okoye said the project was approved to make the facility fit for institutional use, adding that all procedures followed the Public Procurement Act, 2007.
He noted that approvals were obtained from the Bureau of Public Procurement and the supervising ministry, insisting that all commitments made were budgeted obligations that have been lawfully recorded but not yet disbursed.
“None of these funds has left the Commission’s accounts,” he stated, adding that the SEDC had not yet received capital budget releases.
Despite the funding constraints, Okoye said the Commission had relied on available resources and goodwill to initiate groundwork for key regional projects, expressing optimism that full implementation would accelerate once capital releases are made.
He assured that the Commission remains focused on its core mandate of driving infrastructure and socio-economic development across the South East region.
