Massive tree planting and replacement of the dead ones have been championed by the Ebonyi State Ministry of Environment in Abakaliki metropolis, extending it to the nine Urban areas in the state.
The Commissioner for Environment, Grant and Donor Agencies, Dr Richard Nnabu on Wednesday said the ministry embarked on the exercise as part of the State government's mitigation of the climate change and its urban renewal drive.
The Commissioner who acknowledged the global implication of climate change, stressed the importance of ornamental plants, green energy and other eco-friendly products and activities as means of curbing its deleteriousness to the human body and the ecosystem in general.
He said that the planting of the new trees will be closely monitored to ensure it grows without being weeded out by either humans or animals.
