The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Thursday, assured Nigerians of fishing out all the swindlers in the disguise of agents of the legal financial institutions in the country.
The Director Corporate Communication Department of CBN, Osita Nwanisobi made this known during this year’s edition of the financial institution's fair at the Akanu Ibiam international Conference centre, Abakaliki,
Nwanisobi maintained that CBN would work together with the security agencies to fight the financial fraudulent activities connecting with banking system and sundry others in the country.
He urged general public to be wary of criminals going about in defrauding people of their hard earn incomes, claiming to be financial authorized agents.
He said that CBN embarked on the sensitization against the ugly practice, assuring the institution would continue to work with the security agents to ensure "those who are gullibly defrauding Nigerians of their hard incomes are brought to book."
He further stated that CBN has been creating awareness about the activities of the financial fraudsters in the country and urged individuals to always to investigate to know the authenticity of the any financial institution before having dealings with their agents to avoid being defrauded.
"We've done a lot for this regard and we work with the security agencies to ensure that these people claiming what they are not, be brought to book.
"The greatest security to yourself. There's no way someone can come telling you that he deposited certain amount of money in a month and got back interest of 10 per cent and people are just rushing for it, you believe it.
"The first question is that, where are the money coming from? This is fraudulent business and even the individuals supposed to know this, by searching website and find out whether the company is registered.
"If they turned to an entity that supposed to be regulated by CNN, come to our office, to find out.
"It's because of these people do not have license but just started operation. The point remains that we work with security agencies to ensure those involved are brought to book," he said.
On the issue of security and dependablity about the e-Naira platform, Nwanisobi said it is guaranteed in Nigeria.
According to him, "the technology used for e-Naira is cryptography, It's well authenticated and secured."
He stressed that e-Naira is a journey, which may introduce some minor challenges and assured of the CBN's stance to resolve them.
Recalled that the CBN Controller in Abakaliki, Chris Adayi, during the event said, "CBN fair has served as a veritable platform to enlighten the public on the various initiatives of the bank."
He said the sensitization fair like others before it, "is anchored on the pursuit of sound economic policies that will engender economic growth through the financial leverage that this initiatives provides."
"Some of these initiatives include the payment system initiative, real sector initiative, financial inclusion, consumer rights, grievance redress mechanism and a host of others," he added.
He also emphasized on the launch of the the CBN digital currency, and expressed optimism that the rising questions on the grey areas would properly addressed.
"We are all aware of the launch of the CBN digital currency known as e-Naira by Mr. President on the 25th October, 2021. It is my sincere hope that all questions regarding any grey area would be adequately addressed in this fair.
"Let me states that the dynamics economy has informed the need for the CBN to continually evolve policies, programmes and initiatives that has continued to meet the unique needs of our people.
"We however, observed that the participation of South East in these initiatives over the years have remained very low. It is on this note that I urge you all to take advantage of various Central Bank of Nigeria economic initiatives and policies to enhance your economic growth and wellbeing," Ayade said
Governor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State, represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Chief Moses Ogodo-Ali Nome at the event commended CBN's assistance to his administration not only in agriculture but in all sectors, and described the state as the highest beneficiary of the financial institution in the whole of the Southeastern region of Nigeria.
