The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with Ebonyi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) have distributed a relieve materials to the 2020 flood disaster victims in Ebonyi State.
Addressing Journalists during the distribution of the materials to the victims in Abakaliki, the executive Secretary of State Emergency Management Agency Pst. Ken Ozioma Eze said distribution of the materials became imperative so as to cushion the effect of the flood on the people and also to empower them to continue venturing into agricultural activities to enhance food sufficiency and diversification of the National economy.
He noted that over four thousand six hundred and five persons were captured in the affected nine local Government Areas in the State while the items distributed includes bags of rice, fertilizer, pumping machine among others.
He pledged to ensure that the materials got to the respective individuals and advised them to embark on dry season irrigation farming while charging the beneficiaries to used the opportunity judiciously to achieve the set objectives.
However, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources Hon. Ogodo Ali Nome appreciated President Mohammadu Buhari and Ebonyi State Governor Engr. David Umahi for the initiative and charged the farmers to rise to their responsibilities to wage war against hunger in the country.
The commissioner who described the gesture as a welcome development, admonished youths in Ebonyi State and the Country at large to engage meaningfully into agriculture than waiting for white cola job to improve their standard of living.
The former senior special assistant to Ebonyi State Governor on Assembly matters Hon. Julius Nwokpo and the coordinator of Ohaukwu North Development center Hon. Ejikeme Chibueze Agbo maintained that farming is the best thing one can venture on earth and called on the beneficiaries to utilize the opportunity accordingly to ease means of livelihood.
Some of the beneficiaries including Easter Nwiboko and Alo Chinaza thanked the National emergency management agency NEMA for its prompt intervention and assured to used the materials judiciously.
