BY VICTOR NWEGEDE
He is working currently with the Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria in the State House Villa Abuja. He is one of the Special Aides for the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
Comrade Nwokoro is a man of goodwill, with a golden heart and a friend of all human folks. He cherishes eventful activities championing selfi- reliance, liberation and empowerment of the people especially the downtrodden and under-graded ones in the society. He is very young, homily, exposed and diversified; with amazing track records on humanitarian services to the society.
This might be one of the reasons, Comrade Nwokoro featured live at the grand finale of Regina Pacis Foundation, on Thursday, following the flag off of her 17th anniversary on Tuesday despite all his busy schedules in his office.
The Foundation founded by Sir Architect Edward Okereke Nkwegu, an officer in Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Chairman, EDON Group of Companies focuses on reducing the plights of the poor ones in the society.
"Reducing the plights of the poor and less privileged ones in the society is my priority. I feel that one of the greatest challenges to people is to have no hope.
"That is why I set up this NGO to be helping them by rendering unexpected useful service to members of the society without expecting any form of compensation or whatever from the beneficiaries, because it is a horrifying experience not having anything to live on," Sir Architect Edward Nkwegu made this assertion while interacting with newsmen during the occasion.
Nkwegu further said that Regina Pacis Foundation is also committed towards giving a specialized skill and financial education to the people.
The vocational institute according to him, produced fifty two graduates this year and they have been gainfully employed in multi-purpose companies, except three of them retained by the institution. Nkwegu gave many hints on how to become self-reliance, self-worth, financial freedom and encouraged people to venture on meaningful skills and humanitarian services, also to be tackling their problems by facing their root causes, and not focusing only on the resultant effects, among others.
Nkwegu equally noted that President Muhammad Buhari found him worthy to be the Chairman of the Special Public Works Programme in Ebonyi State - the programme that empowered thirteen thousand Ebonyians out of which over 95 percent have received their sixty thousand Naira allowance each and 5 percent non-payment, which he said, was largely due to incorrect details in their Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) and account opening name inconsistencies within the participating banks.
The Osinbajo's Special Aide, thus, commended Nkwegu for having used the foundation to touch many lives positively.
Nwokoro said: "Of course, it is a home coming event. It is annual event that takes place here at Okpoduma-Agbaja, in the yearly basis, where friends of Sir Architect Edward Nkwegu, the Founder of this charitable organization and Chairman EDON Group of Companies, come from different paths of lives to celebrate with him, alongside the members of the foundation.
"I'm glad to be part of the people who attended the event today to identify with our boss, my brother and mentor who uses this Foundation to touch many lives positively, and today, he said, no stop in rendering selfless services to the downtrodden and the needy."
While advising other well placed people in the society to help the less privileged ones to amilorate their sufferings, Comrade Nwokoro used himself as an example.
His words: "First, I'm a good example of what is going on today at Regina Pacis Foundation Villa Okpoduma-Agbaja. My name is a grassroot name in terms of philanthropy, infrastructural development, human capacity building and otherwise.
"At my level and capacity, I do the same. As a person, I have a similar foundation. My scholarship foundation - Ekeson Foundation which helps in coordinating the affairs of the less privileged ones - those who cannot afford their school fees, those confronted with challenges of meeting up their school activities just because of one problem or the other and not be able to pay their school fees, among others.
"As a matter of the fact, today in Ebonyi State, I think I should be able to count myself as one of those who have empowered people in terms of giving Federal jobs to the downtrodden, the less privilege, to our teeming youths and graduates all over the country.
"I can authoritatively beat my chest that between 2009 and now, I have secured jobs for over 1,000 persons in various Federal government establishments, ministries, departments and parastatals - the records are there to show itself.
"Of course, I have been emulating this kind of gesture embarked by the Founder of the Regina Pacis Foundation. In practice, it's part of my life. I enjoy helping people, putting smiles on their faces especially the downtrodden, the unemployed graduates and youths.
"I do infrastructure, buildings and currently, I have a skill acquisition centre, that is ongoing at Opa-Ephia village in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi.
"Go to Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki, the 500KVA that powers the hospital, which enhances the working efficiency of the health workers is my courtesy. I brought it personally to amilorate the medical challenges of our people in the hospital.
"As I'm talking to you, there's a two ward complex going on in the Federal Teaching Hospital called FETHA 1, all these are courtesy of this young man talking to you. I brought it to also make changes and most importantly, for the betterment of the life of our people.
"Go to other places like Federal Teaching Hospital, Owerri, I have two storey building complexes ongoing and all these are my contributions to amilorate the sufferings of our people.
"Of course, medical tourism has become the order of the day in Nigeria. I channelled some of these things into health sector to cushion the effects of medical tourism. When all the facilities are put in place it will go a long way to reduce the sufferings of our people, because they will be accessing and receiving proper medical care and treatment much more easier and better.
"Meanwhile, it is advisable that the well placed people in the society should start laying chateriable foundations, helping the poor ones, the indigents and the needy to amilorate their sufferings, and I believe that, there are greater rewards for this venture."
