Group, Alliances for Africa in collaboration with African Women Development Fund (AWDF) has engaged Ebonyi women on the use of technology in reporting GBV cases as a way to curb the menace in the southeast geopolitical zone of the country.
The training tagged "stay Alert Strategic Capacity on Technology, Innovation and leadership for women and girls, took place in Abakaliki on Tuesday, November, 30th, 2021.
Our Correspondent reports that the program is to address systemic inequalities through increasing women's voice and activism, advancing their leadership and decision-making skills in the southeast, Nigeria.
According to AFA importance of data in providing evidence on the prevalence of sex and gender-based violence can further be used as a tool for demanding accountability from the government.
In her submission, Faith Kalabor program officer Alliances for Africa while speaking to journalists said that the program would ensure that data on VAWG is available and accessible.
"The program is on technology innovation and leadership and the essence is to bring women to speed in technology advancement as it regards to women and right issues so that while they are coming out with initiative and every other strategy to cub sex and gender-based violence they could also look forward to advancing that initiative through technology and innovation.
"The training is not to train women in technology in general but to look at how they can use technology in reporting cases because, in physical reporting, there is always a gap.
"Bringing reporting to the digital format will bridge the gap between survivors and service providers and, ensure there is data documentation. these things are happening because several times government always deny that GBV is not prevalent but now that we are going to have data, from the survivors, service providers, and even the third party it's going to bring data to life and it is going to be updated daily because people are constantly going to be reporting and it will appear on an app.
She said that AFA has developed an app called "kpoturum", which will help people to report and get an instant referral at appropriate quotes where they can get GBV responses.
Police public relations officer in the state DSP Loveth Odah who was a participant urged women to embrace the new reporting tool nothing that reporting violence against women and girls is not limited to anyone but a general issue that needs drastic measures to stop.
