Following the 2021 internally generated revenues, IGR, seven Nigerian states were downgraded poorest.
NATIONAL PANEL reports that while some states were able to generate a reasonable amount of revenue in 2021, others were not lucky enough.
This was revealed in a report from the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics.
The report on the IGR of each state in the first quarter of 2021, we featured the seven poorest states in Nigeria and below is the list;
(7) Benue State:
Benue State, which is located in the north-central region is the 7th on the list. The state generated #6.7billion in 2021.
The low IGR might be a result of the incessant clashes between farmers and herders that rocked the state.
(6) Ekiti State:
Ekiti is the only southwestern state on the list. The state generated a meager sum of #6.5 billion.
(5) Bayelsa State:
Bayelsa state, located in the south-south, is the only state from that region on the list. With the abundance of crude oil in the state, it is surprising to see it on the list.
The revenue generated by Bayelsa was #6.4 billion.
(4) Adamawa State:
Adamawa state is located in the northeastern region of the country.
The state generated about #6 billion.
(3) Gombe State:
Gombe state is also located in the northeastern region.
The state generated the sum of #5.4 billion.
(2) Taraba State:
Taraba state is located in the northeast. It generated a paltry sum of #4.7 billion in 2021.
The low IGR might be the result of communal clashes witnessed in the state.
(1) Yobe State:
Based on the 2021 IGR, Yobe state is the poorest state in Nigeria. The state generated #4 billion only.
The activities of terrorists might be responsible for the low revenue generated in the state. - The News Guru and Punch.
