In Ebonyi, three (3) suspected child-traffickers were arrested, Friday by the State Police Command, with thirty two (32) victims in their hostages rescued.
The Police Spokesperson of the command, DSP Loveth Odah made the disclosure while briefing newsmen in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State Capital.
She said that the suspects including Nwagboduhu Ekene, Nwaoko Godwin and Christian Nwankwo were arrested in their hideouts in Okposi Umuaghara in Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Odah said, the Command has also carried out preliminary investigation which revealed that the rescued children were trafficked from different parts of Nigeria for forced labour - hawking; sexual exploitation and other dangerous activities in the name of networking business.
She disclosed that the Police received the information surrounding the activities of the suspected child-traffickers on January 7 this year, following a case of a missing person reported by Mrs. Nwankwo Ijeoma of Uterufie village in Ebonyi Local Government Area of the state, whose her 14-years old daughter, Nwankwo Chidera left home to unknown destination.
The Police Mouthpiece noted that while the command embarked on investigation, a company’s advertisement sheet containing a phone number was found in the room of Mrs Nwankwo's daughter.
The Police, in her words, used the phone number to trace and identify the owner - Christian Nwanko, who was arrested immediately.
