Group known as the Ebonyi Equity Media Team has berated the spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Comrade Nwoba Chika Nwoba and his supporters in the state who were allegedly campaigning against power rotation as enshrined in the party constitution.
Mr Jeremiah Onyibe stated this on behalf of the group, in a text of the press, titled "Nwoba Chika Nwoba and other stakeholders from Ebonyi Central can't end zoning and power rotation in Peoples Democratic Party, PDP," which was made available to newsmen in Abakaliki.
Onyibe in the text said: "We read through a communiqué released by purported APC stakeholders from Ebonyi Central zone on January 8th, 2022 trying to condemn those campaigning for power rotation arrangement and equity without acknowledging that equity has been the bed rock upon which People’s Democratic Party PDP anchored their victory.
"It is unfortunate that the likes of Publicity Secretary of People’s Democratic Party PDP Mr. Nwoba Chika Nwoba and other stakeholders from Ebonyi Central who made this communiqué are not aware that the letters and the spirit of their Constitution clearly stated that the party shall adhere to the principles of rotation and zoning in pursuit of the principles of equity Justice and Fairness.
"According to the section 7 (2) (C) of People’s Democratic Party Constitution … “in pursuant of the principle of equity, justice and fairness the party shall adhere to the policy of rotation and zoning of party and public elective offices and should be enforced by appropriate executive committee at all levels” and it stated in the preamble that “to create socio-political conditions conducive for national peace and unity by ensuring fair and equitable distribution of resources and opportunities to confirm with the principle of power shift and power sharing by rotating key political offices among the diverse people of our country and evolving powers equitably between the federal, state and local government in the spirit of the federalism.”
"It is now more clearer that power zoning and rotation and as well equity are clearly enshrined in the Constitution of People’s Democratic Party PDP and enforceable by relevant executives committee at all levels and by that anyone going against already established known political zone which includes Ebonyi North, Ebonyi Central and Ebonyi South are only doing so for their own selfish gain which will not stand.
"People’s Democratic Party PDP in Ebonyi have demonstrated their commitment in equity, Justice and fairness by allowing power to go to the north for 8 years from 1999-2007 which produced Sen. Sam. Ominyi Egwu as the governor and Ebonyi Central Produced Chief Martin Nwancho Elechi who govern for 8 years from 2007-2015 while Ebonyi South produced Egnr Dave Nweze Umahi who is currently governor state and will rule till 2023 when he will handover to Ebonyi north to continue after which they will handover to the central and it will continue like that, anybody or group who are against this zoning arrangement which have already been institutionalized is truly against the letters and spirits of the Constitution of People’s Democratic Party and people will resist such move with their strength.
"At this point we call on our brothers from the central to resist every attempt to clash the interest of the both zone and allow equity, justice and fairness to play it course by allowing the zoning arrangement that was already in place to stand than to create more political tension among the sister clan.
"It will be at the best interest of Unwuekumenyi for you people to accept equity and power rotation which will give chance for fair share among the three major political zones in the state than allowing ourselves to be divided.
"Unwuekumenyi are one and no any dividing force will reap us apart for some people to take undue advantage on us. It is the time to come together to forge a common front and advance our political interest, what is ahead is greater, let us come together and support equity, let us support Ebonyi North to produce the next governor of Ebonyi state after which central will produce."
