...Harps on NYSC Group Individual Family Social Health Insurance Programme

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Prof Shuaib Ibrahim has warned corps members to avoid unauthorised journeys and any other thing capable of jeopardizing their lives while serving the nation.
Prof Ibrahim gave this warning on Tuesday at the NYSC Permanent Site, Old MacGregor College, Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, during the closing ceremony of the 2022 Batch 'A' Stream 'I' Corps Members' Orientation Course.
The NYSC DG ably represented by the State Coordinator, Mrs Bamai Mercy Dawuda also warned the corps members against involving themselves in drug abuse and trafficking, cybercrime and advanced-free-fraud, among other social vices.
He maintained that the defaulters of the order, when caught will be dealt with by the provisions of the NYSC Bye-Laws.
Ibrahim, however, urged the corps members to be law-abiding citizens at all times, to make the NYSC and their families proud.
"I enjoin you to be law-abiding at all times and be good ambassadors of the NYSC and your families.
"Furthermore, I would like to reiterate our warning against unauthorised journeys and night trips. To greatly minimize the risk of road traffic accidents, you are expected to always cut short your trips from six o'clock in the evening and pass the night at the military barracks and other locations officially designated as safe.
"You are always strongly advised to avoid boarding vehicles at locations other than officially approved motor parks to avoid falling prey to criminals disguising as commercial drivers," he advised.
The DG further urged the corps members to continue to observe the COVID-19 protocols anywhere they find themselves, noting that, the Federal government's directive on the presentation of evidence of COVID-19 vaccination has remained a prerequisite for gaining entry to public offices.
He also commended the Federal government for providing the enablement of the take-off Corps members' enrolment in the National Health Insurance under a comprehensive initiative known as the NYSC Group Individual Family Social Health Insurance Programme (GIFSHIP).
He enjoined the corps members to take full advantage of the arrangement by registering under health providers in their service locations and always reporting promptly for medical attention in the event of their ill-health.
He appealed to the corps employers to accept the corps members that would be posted to them, by according priority on their welfare and providing the enabling environment for them to develop their potentials.
He equally called on the state and local government authorities, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to give the serving corps members the necessary encouragement.
The DG had earlier commended the corps members and camp officials, for their demonstration of the high level of discipline and active participation in all the camp activities, which in his words, attested to their readiness to make the best out of the service year, with full hope that they would sustain the tempo at their various places of primary assignment in advancing the unity and development of the country.
He, therefore, appreciated the Federal government for its unwavering support for the NYSC, commending the contributions of the state government and local governments, security agencies, the Federal Steering Committee on COVID-19, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, traditional rulers, corps employers, stakeholders and other aiding organisations to the scheme.
