Students of Ebonyi State University (EBSU), yesterday said they will support only the candidate that will reduce tuition fees in next year’s governorship election in the state.
Comrade Joshua Nwafor, former SUG President, EBSU.
The students also said they will vote for a candidate that is accessible for the number one exalted position.
Former Student Union Government(SUG) President of the University, Comrade Joshua Nwafor stated this in Abakaliki, the state capital while addressing the students on the outcome of the just-concluded National Association Nigerian Students(NANS) South East Coordinatorship election in which he contested the position.
“One thing is sure, we are not done with the struggle in the state. The student community in Ebonyi state must not sell out in the 2023 general elections, we must have a candidate. We will have a candidate that will reduce school fees in EBSU, we will have a candidate that will give our leaders vehicles, we will have a candidate that will recognize the JCC Chairman, we will have a candidate that we will call on the phone and he will answer us”, he stated.
He commended the students for their unflinching support for him in the NANS South East election and urged them to accept the outcome of the exercise.
“I want to thank you, especially for the unalloyed support you gave to me starting from 2020 I declared my interest to run for the office of the Coordinator NANS Zone B. So, I want to say that as I didn’t win the election, it does not change the fact that we have paid our dues. It is a contest and in every contest, there must be a winner. I am thanking all of you for the support you showed me.
“The outcome of that election is such that we didn’t predict; everybody was throwing the support behind us before the victory slip off our fingers but it's all good because it is an Ebonyian that won the election. I was not selfish about the contest. We gave people power in the time past but they were selfish with the power, they were rather impoverishing others, enriching themselves and sending their brothers to every available position that comes and we the emergence of IBB, I know that he is not going to do that.
“So, I want to thank you, especially for the all-weather support. I am pleading with you to please accept the outcome of that election. The reason is that we are all Ebonyians, we fought until we now have what is called South East Zone in NANS. Before now, we sued to have Zone A, Zone B, Zone C and Zone D. But now, we have six Zones as it appears in the 6 geo-political zones. So, we now have six Zones in NANS; Zone A, Zone B, Zone C, Zone D, Zone E and Zone F and South East Zone is now Zone F. While we were fighting for the creation of the new zone, a lot of people fought that that zone will not come to limelight, we said no that it must come to limelight. The reason is that the Zone is created for Administrative convenience.
“At any point in time you have a problem, I am still available. That which I would have done as a Coordinator, I am still available to do it. I will continue to assist you in any way I can because you have continued to be by my side”, he said.
