The Chairman-elect of the Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State in the just concluded council polls, Barrister Stephen Emenike Nwankpa has promised to engage his people meaningfully in entrepreneurship development.
He stated this after being declared the winner of the Izzi council chairmanship election on Sunday by the Chairman of the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission, Barrister Josy Eze in Abakaliki.
His words: "I promised my people, to engage them meaningfully in entrepreneurship in their local communities.
"People do not want to participate in farming, their careers in life, but we will help them, to acquire entrepreneurial skills by establishing contacts with the entrepreneurs both in the state and outside the state.
"We will make sure that our people are meaningfully engaged in entrepreneurship, which is only sure to sustain development today.
"Our people will be encouraged to participate in entrepreneurship to remake their careers in life."
Nwankpa also promised to consolidate the programs of Governor David Umahi's led administration in the council area.
"We must make sure we anchor on what has already been established, by bringing infrastructural development closer to our people, especially on building rural access roads because the roads are bad.
"We tend to consolidate on what has been happening, sustainability of peace and harmonious coexistence among all the people in our local government area.
"Whether you are a visitor, you will live here. Whether you are born here, you will live here, and including our neighbours, we need to be more peacefully with them, there is no need of fighting one another."
The Chairman-elect commended the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr David Nweze Umahi, saying "he has deepened and broadened the chances of the political parties to participating in internal democracy apart from the fact he is the commander of the infrastructure in the entire country."
He said that Governor Umahi has brought democracy to the grassroots, to stabilize internal democracy in Ebonyi State.
"Today His Excellency, our able Governor, Engr Chief David Nweze Umahi has demonstrated that he is determined to leave the democratic process in the state," he hinted.
He further expressed joy over the massive turnout of the council people to vote during the election, thanking them for supporting him to emerge the winner of the exercise.
"I'm very grateful that people turned out massively to vote, it's a way of ensuring inclusive participation in the electioneering process for grassroots development. I'm very grateful that they support me to win this contest. I will not disappoint them. I will reciprocate this gesture, by making them proud," Nwankpa assured.
Meanwhile, former Nigerian Minister and Elder Statesman in Ebonyi State, Chief Goddy Ogbaga and numerous others have congratulated Hon Nwankpa for his overwhelming victory in the election.
