From Augustine Odanwu
It was Tabby Biddle who opined that women's political voices are intimate, caregiving and life-enhancing. It is about bringing more love, caring and justice into the world. It is also fierce and determined.
Since 2006, the National Gender Policy (NGP) formulated 35% Affirmative Action (AA) which is to ensure at least 35% inclusiveness of women in both appointed and elected positions.
Since women started participating in politics, evidence and facts have proven that in all aspects of the political process, women bridge the gap that exists across party and ethnic lines, women enhance peace, and cooperation and ensure greater responsiveness to citizen needs.
With women in politics, girl child education is enhanced.
In Ebonyi State, Ohaukwu in particular, during the period of Late Mrs Mabel Aleke as the Local Government Chairlady, there was the need to mitigate the suffering of women with the construction of shops for selling Garri at Okwo Ngbo Market, Eke Izhiangbo and Effium markets. She drilled many boreholes across the three main zones in Ohaukwu L.G.A.
She was also the only woman who has been elected in Ohaukwu to represent the good people of Ohaukwu South Constituency and she also performed credibly well.
However, since the inception of the Ohaukwu North constituency, we have not had an exceptional representative from the male folks who have represented us in the State House of Assembly. Our male representatives have rather exposed us to non-manageable internal crises.
It is against this backdrop that Ohaukwu-North Constituents wish to make a paradigm shift from male folks and seek succour among the female folk. In this regard, we have unanimously decided to pinch our tent with Hon. Easy Agwu Agwu (Up NEPA), is a woman whose character and simplicity have radiated and formed her physical beauty. In her, we hope to find peace and unity which are long-age scarce commodities in Ohaukwu-North.
Through her, we believe that the cries of the widows and vulnerable children who were displaced during the recent crisis we witnessed in Ohaukwu –North will be laid on the floor of the house for a rapid solution.
That is why we, the people of Ndegu Nweze Village, in Ukwuagba (one of the most populated communities that has the strength and capacity to determine who represents Ohaukwu-North) have evaluated all the candidates contesting to represent the good people of Ohaukwu-North, has decided to take the bull by the horn.
We have decided to stand by and with Hon. Esther Agwu to represent Ohaukwu-North comes 2023 general election. Irrespective of your parties and her party affiliation, APC, we shall take her campaign to all the nooks and crannies of Ukwuagba and the rest of the communities that can determine who represents Ohaukwu North. Having determined to give her our support, we are not going back. Yesterday, the 26th day of August 2022, we passed that resolution.
As we will Obediently cast our votes at the presidential level, we will equally cast our vote for the distinguished Hon. Esther Agwu to wipe away our tears.
Hon. Esy’s election to represent the good people of Ohaukwu-North is not negotiable.
