Ebonyi gubernatorial candidate, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has charged the leaders and people of the Igbeagu Community in the Izzi Local Government Area of the state, to maintain lasting peace amongst themselves, so attract more Government presence and an all-around development in the area.
Speaker Nwifuru gave these words of counsel, yesterday, Saturday, September 10, 2022, at his official residence in Abakaliki, when the Traditional Ruler, Development Centre Coordinator, Development Union President, Village Heads and various Stakeholders of the Community paid him a solidarity visit, in appreciation of his numerous peacebuilding strides in the area and to register their unflinching support for his election, come 2023.
Leo Ekene Oketa, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker made this known in a press release on Sunday.
Nwifuru said: "I am not so happy seeing all of you here today. Because my Igbeagu Community is turning into a beloved son who opts for trouble and jettisons hard work. There are so many issues in various villages in Igbeagu and it is not going to be so again. I won’t be contesting for election and a Community in Izzi will be in crisis. Enough is enough. I have friends, brothers, sisters, and very close allies in Igbeagu. It is my home, and it must be a peaceful Community.
“I am charging the Development Union President, Traditional Ruler, Development Centre Coordinator, and all Stakeholders in the area to rise to the occasion and ensure there is absolute and lasting peace in Igbeagu. The leaders should be impartial in dispensing justice. The work of a Development Union President is enormous, for that reason he must be upright and see himself as the representative of Government in his village. You cannot be in crisis and expect Government’s developmental presence in your area. So, you all should be up and doing and call a spade, a spade, because in truth, in any community where there’s a consistent crisis, know that some of the stakeholders have interests in issues.
“There is a reason why God raises a leader every time. I tell you, peacebuilding in Igbeagu Community is one of the reasons God has brought me to the fore at this time and we will succeed. I thank you for your gifts, support, love and care. Let me promise you that Igbeagu Community will witness loads of growth and development in my tenure as Governor of Ebonyi State, from May 29, 2023.” – Nwifuru concluded.
Earlier in their respective remarks, the Traditional Ruler of Igbeagu Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Michael Ogbonnaya Ukwa, Special Assistant to the Governor of Ebonyi State – Hon. Richard Ugo Idike, Coordinator of Igbeagu Development Centre – Hon. Mrs Roseline Nkwede and the Development Union President thanked the Honourable Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly and All Progressives Congress (APC) Gubernatorial Candidate in Ebonyi State - Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for his selflessness and commitment to instilling peace and reconciliation in Igbeagu Community. They assured him of nothing less than total support and complete votes for him in the upcoming elections.
Other stakeholders who were in attendance included, Hon. Paul James Nwogha – Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Ebonyi State and immediate former Chairman of Izzi Local Government Area, Prince Kizito Nwenyi – immediate former Leader of Izzi legislative council, Hon. Philip Alieze and many others.
