The Project Manager of the Ebonyi international, Olympic stadium Abakaliki, Gabriel Uzoigwe has said that work on the multi-billion naira, sporting edifice was going as projected.
Uzoigwe disclosed in an interview to a correspondent who monitored work progress on the edifice.
The project manager said that foundation works which would solidly support structures have been completed.
"The beams and columns are in place and the terraces are being erected.
"We hope to conclude the first cycle of the works by December and get the pitch ready for use.
"We pray that the government continues making funds available which will make the stadium ready for use within one year.
He highlighted that several citizens of the state were engaged in construction works thereby creating employment for them.
"Various forms of business activities also go on at the site which results in a huge economic value-chain.
Mr Chukwudi Unachukwu, a Consulting Engineer for the project described the edifice as monumental, noting that the state government has shown its resolve to complete it as scheduled.
"We are presently having the challenge of the rains but make-up for such disruptions with açcelareted work during dry weather.
Mr Amaechi Alo, Director of Youth Development in the state ministry of Youth Development and Sports, said the edifice will provide an avenue for youths to showcase their sporting talents.
"The state will host several national and continental sporting events and alongside the world-class infrastructure on the ground, make it a tourist destination.
Mr Emeka Ikegwu, the Special Assistant to the state commissioner for youth development and sports, commended the staff of the ministry for their effective supervision of the project.
"This has been made possible by the tenacity of the Commissioner, Charles Akpu-Enika in achieving the governor's mandate on the project.
