LR: Bola Tinubu and Nyesom Wike.
The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has explained that Bola Tinubu, the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, gave him a senatorial ticket when Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s nominee, shattered his pacts with him.
Wike alleged that he rejected the offer of the APC presidential candidate’s ticket because of allegiance to the opposition group and determination to see the PDP retake power in the nation in the 2023 polls.
In a chat with media professionals on Friday, the governor disclosed the offer he had gotten from Tinubu and claimed that if he had been more ambitious, he would have defected to the ruling party.
According to Wike, he contested the presidential primaries because he wanted to be the candidate and that is why he didn’t buy a senatorial form.
“I didn’t contest so I can become a vice presidential candidate, I am not like others who were not serious and bought senatorial form alongside presidential form and that’s why when Tinubu offered me senate slot, I didn’t go for it," Wike disclosed.
