From Victor Nwegede, Abakaliki
A few days ago, the Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Dr Sam Ominyi Egwu trained and empowered over 400 farmers from his zone.
The 400 farmers were drawn from the four local government areas of Abakaliki, Ebonyi, Izzi and Ohaukwu that make up the zone.
Each of the farmers was given different agricultural inputs including two bags of fish feed, fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, seedlings, cassava variety stems and other farm inputs.
Every farmer who participated in the programme was also issued a certificate and given fifty thousand Naira ( N50, 000 ) by Senator Egwu at the three-day training to use and cultivate the inputs.
The training, supply and distribution of agricultural inputs to the farmers was carried out by the National Root Crops and Research Institute, Umudike
Flagging off the programme in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, Egwu restated his determination to touch humanity through human empowerment and people-valued infrastructural development.
Senator Egwu represented by David Odeh said he has concluded a plan to hold another batch of empowerment programmes for his constituents before the end of the year.
According to Egwu's representative,
"You know Senator Sam Egwu is a lover of human empowerment. He was born to empower people. When he was the Governor of Ebonyi State, he changed the ugly narratives in the State and everybody was happy because of his legacies. He is always ready to empower people.
"Today's empowerment programme is the tip of the iceberg because another fold of empowerment is coming up before the end of this year."
He said, "the distribution of the inputs to farmers at this time is to encourage all-season farming activities in support of the food sufficiency and security policy of the government."
