Senator Sam Ominyi Egwu representing Ebonyi North Zone in the National Assembly has empowered over four hundred(400) youths of his constituents.
The 400 youths drawn from four (4) Local Government Areas of Abakaliki, Ebonyi, Izzi and Ohaukwu in the Ebonyi North zone were recently at Salt Spring Hotel, Abakaliki subjected to a five-day training programme sponsored by Senator Egwu, the first Executive Governor of Ebonyi State.
The training programme which attracted stakeholders from all parts of the Ebonyi North Senatorial District and beyond was carried out by the Nigerian Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, Abuja and focused on shoemaking, handbag production and bead making.
Speaking at the program, the sponsor and the Federal Lawmaker, Senator Sam Ominyi Egwu appreciated the people for their support so far and promised never to disappoint them.
He explained that the training programme was in tandem with his belief that in addition to giving fish, people should be taught how to catch fish.
Senator Egwu who was represented by the PDP Candidate for Ebonyi North West State Constituency in the coming election, Barr. Obinna Iteshi lamented the general hardship in the land and maintained that giving people handiwork will make them self-sustaining and reduce the hardship. He urged the participants to take the training seriously.
The Senator who enumerated some of the bills and motions he sponsored and co-sponsored as a Senator for the past years revealed that in addition to his statutory legislative responsibilities, he had executed so many Constituency projects including the electrification of many Communities, the sinking of boreholes, road construction, award of scholarships to students among others and has attracted so many projects and programmes to his Constituency.
While revealing that he had equally secured federal jobs for some youths in his constituency, Dr Egwu assured that if re-elected in come 2023 election he will do more.
The leader of the team from the Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, Abuja, Madam Silva Blessing and her counterpart, Madam Ruth Chaba said the beneficiaries were lucky to have been selected for the training and assured that the knowledge gained from the program if utilized would grant them self reliant.
Chaba thanked Senator Egwu for sponsoring the programme through their office and advised the participants to improve on what they have learnt.
Some of the stakeholders at the event including Hon. Raymond Okeokpa, Hon. Laz Nwonunku, Chief Ambrose Okoro and the National President of Izzi Nnodo Youth Assembly, Mr Ugochukwu Ojike among others described Senator Egwu as the most performed Senator in the history of the Zone and assured that nothing will stop his re-election come 2023.
Some of the beneficiaries including Mrs Stella Ogba, Emmanuel Nwebonyi, Cynthia Innh and Sunday Oriji for Izzi, Ebonyi, Abakaliki and Ohaukwu Local Government Areas respectively, thanked Senator Egwu for his magnanimity and promised not only to reciprocate with their votes but to mobilize support to ensure his victory in the February general election.
The beneficiaries were presented with certificates and envelopes containing undisclosed amounts of money at the end of the training programme.
