Nigeria's electoral umpire has expressed its preparedness to conduct the 2023 polls, saying its portal and server have been secured for the electronic transmission of votes in the upcoming general elections.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through its Head of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Mr Chukwuemeka Nnaji, disclosed this in a media interactive session which was organized by the management of the Commission at its headquarters in Anambra State.
Nnaji said that the INEC would store their information on the cloud with adequate security, to ensure that the activities of internet hackers and other technical hitches that affect online business do not affect the exercise.
In addition, the Administrative Secretary of the commission in Anambra state, Mr Jude Okwuonu, clarified that with electronic transmission of results, the Bimodal Voting and Accreditation System (BVAS), and other innovations initiated by the INEc, would be hard to manipulate the elections.
He further revealed that the electronic transfer of results and other innovations brought into the system by the INEC were preparing grounds for electronic voting and other deliberations in future elections.
He assured those who took part in the recently concluded continuous voters registration exercise that the Commission would ensure they collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVC) before the 2023 polls
.
Okwuonu and other management staff of the INEC equally stated the legitimate steps already taken to ensure that the 2023 general elections were free fair, credible and without violence.
