As the 2023 general elections draw close, Ebonyi Governor, Engr David Nweze Umahi has assured all the political parties and their candidates of a level playing field while conducting their political activities in the state.Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State.
The governor stated this on Thursday during the prayer summit organized for all political party candidates in Ebonyi by the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN Ebonyi State Chapter held at Saint Paul's Catholic Church, Onuebonyi.
The Special Assistant to the governor, Chooks Oko made this known in a press release.
He pledged his administration's preparedness to provide a level playground for all Political Parties to canvass for votes ahead of the 2023 General elections in the State.
Umahi represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kenneth Ugbala commended CAN for organizing the prayer summit which he said would go a long way in ensuring a hitch-free electioneering exercise in 2023.
While appreciating the Flagbearers of Political Parties for participating in the exercise, Governor Umahi urged them to play the game of politics with a sense of brotherliness to avoid overheating the polity.
"On behalf of the Governor of Ebonyi State till 2023, Engineer Chief David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, FNATE, I want to welcome all of us to this important event.
"I want to thank our Fathers in the Lord, the CAN for organizing this event, I want to thank all our Flagbearers for attending, your conducts are encouraging.
"I want to remind you that we have no other State we can call our own, except Ebonyi so we have to work very hard to protect it.
"We assure you as Government that we will provide a level playing ground for you all to conduct your activities."
In his lecture, Archbishop Newlife Ede of the Methodist Church urged Nigerian Electorates to look beyond Political Party loyalty in their choice of Candidates in the 2023 General elections.
He charged Christian Politicians to approach the forthcoming elections with diligence in order not to truncate the faith of Christianity by their choices.
"My people, there is fire on the mountain, may we rise, there is evil everywhere, if you don't wake up before we close our eyes and open it, we are already strangers in our land."
Earlier, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, South East Zone, Reverend Father Abraham Nwali while lecturing on the topic "the importance of peace and security in the electioneering process" charged the Candidates and all Political actors to be peaceful in their approach to the elections to avoid threatening the peace of the State and Country.
The theme of the summit was "Peaceful and smooth General Elections 2023".
Special prayers were said for the Flagbearers, for a peaceful election and transition in 2023.
