Governor David Umahi's led administration has accused an ex-lawmaker in the House of Representatives, Chief Linus Abah Okorie of harbouring illicit drug traffickers in his club facility in Ebonyi State Capital, Abakaliki.
It was gathered that Okorie who is currently the 2023 Senatorial Candidate of the Labour Party for Ebonyi South Zone was arrested and tortured by the suspected state chapter of the Ebubeagu South East Security in the state.
But Governor Umahi's government who spoke through the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barrister Uche Orji has unveiled that the alleged tortured Senatorial Candidate, Okorie is currently in the police net to answer questions connecting to the crimes he allegedly executed.
Orji accused Okorie of circulating fake news and harbouring hard drug traffickers in his club facility.
In his words, “Okorie was arrested in connection with serial crimes allegedly committed by him and the complicity of his club facility – the City Hub in promoting sundry crimes especially in peddling hard drugs and other illicit substances.”
He excused himself from Ebubeagu security operatives of having a hand in the purported torture and abduction of Okorie, saying the security operatives are trained and have the right by law to arrest any erring person in the society.
“The motive behind the weighty but baseless accusations levelled against the security outfit that carried out its lawful and professional duty about the offences hanging around the neck of Linus Okorie and for which he had for the umpteenth time rudely and subversively evaded every attempt by the Police to arrest him to answer to the crimes he was suspected to have committed,” he added.
He indicted Okorie on perpetrating capital offences, “contrary to the unfounded, irresponsible and vicious accusations widely circulated in social media for cheap political gains.
“Okorie was arrested and promptly handed over to the Police and he is pretty hale and hearty. He is already giving useful information on his roles in the offences reported against him,” the governor said through the Commissioner.
