...Sends message of hope to Effium war-torn community, others
From Victor Nwegede, Abakaliki
The Candidate for the Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rt Hon Victor Aleke Umoke has assured his constituents of bringing practical solutions to their cravings if he emerges winner in the 2023 polls.
Alek who expressed his passion to make a difference in the Green Chambers if emerged victorious in 2023, urged his constituents to support him to birth a new dawn in their constituency.
"With a passion to make a difference: Let’s birth a new dawn in Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency," the House of Representatives candidate hinted in his manifesto.
He further said: "A time comes in history when a people must dare to leap away from a usual part of mediocrity. Why must the good people of Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency continue to get far less than they deserve from their slot in the National Assembly?
"I expect that the extant digital age and the corresponding increased access to information, especially through social media, should have armed the younger generation with enough illumination on what effective representation in the green chamber should look like.
"I strongly believe that an opportunity to represent the people at the National Assembly should never be seen as a personal “meal ticket” but as a critical call to stand between the people and the government.
"I see it as a call to a duty that is critical to the life of the constituents! I see it as an opportunity to compassionately absorb the pains of the people and draw down to them necessary relief from the government.
"Mine is therefore a deep passion to serve! It would be an opportunity to hold in trust the people’s vocal cords for use in speaking for them.
"I have watched with pain how issues that affect the people of my constituency have been relegated to the background. Some of the issues like the Effium crisis is supposed to have been featured more vigorously on the floor of the green chamber. I believe it is deep enough to have gained more prominent National attention.
"I have a good grasp of what the issues are among my people and I believe I can bring practical solutions to the table through effective representation."
The Lawmaker recalled: "I have through my present assignment in Ebonyi State House of Assembly as a member representing Ebonyi Northwest Constituency, proven my capacity to stand firmly for the interest of my constituents at all times, even in the face of intimidation.
"In addition to my nominal legislative responsibilities of taking an active part in making quality laws, ratifying treaties, streamlining budgets, ratifying the executive appointments, as well as upholding the principle of Checks and Balances, my goal of quality representation and leadership shall be vigorously and more specifically pursued through, but not limited to the following means:
"Regular Town Hall Meeting: I believe that regular interaction with the people through town hall meetings is very key to ineffective representation. It affords the people the opportunity to provide updates on pressing issues as well as demand accountability.
"Contribution to National Issues: Mine will not be a case of bench-warming at the green chamber. My antecedents bear witness to the fact that I can ever be an "o yes" member of the National Assembly. I have the necessary courage to bring to the fore the voice of my constituents.
"Attraction of Constituency Projects: With the high level of poverty ravaging our people, especially in the rural areas, it would only take a hardened and selfish heart not to be on one's toes to bring relief to the people. I intend to make my people have a significant feel of the dividends of democracy if given a chance to serve.
"Sponsorship of Students to Higher Institutions: At the core of my passion is to offer as much assistance as possible to our young people to develop themselves through education and digital-skills acquisition. This stems from my personal belief that the most sustainable poverty alleviation programme is effective human capital development through different forms of education.
"Sponsoring of Bills: In legislative assignments such as I seek to undertake, one of the veritable means of addressing fundamental concerns of constituents is sponsorship of bills. I'm therefore set to optimally utilize this medium in solving my people's problems as and when due."
Aleke therefore, appealed to the good people of Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency to arm themselves with their voter cards, "as this is the only weapon with which they can change the prevailing ugly narratives in our constituency.
"A vote for me would be a vote for the people's interest, not for selfish interest!"
