...As Obi celebrates Christmas with over 2.5 million IDPs in Benue
Governor Samuel Ortom has commended the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party for having with the refugees in the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs in their camps in Benue State during the Christmas celebration.
The Benue governor also expressed conviction in the Presidential bid of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, saying he is fit to address the challenges facing Nigeria if elected
He stated that among all the Presidential Candidates that have so far visited the state to canvass for votes, the Labour Party's Presidential Candidate was the only one that has identified with the IDPs.
Ortom said: "I want to commend you and thank you very much for finding time to be here, first of its kind. That is why you are a unique Presidential candidate. Others have chosen to neglect these IDPs that are in those camps."
"Several presidential candidates have come but non of them has chosen to visit those camps and look at their plight and see how they are doing and at least given them hope that when they win they will bring succour, help and hope to the people."
He challenged other presidential candidates to emulate Mr Obi's humane and exemplary leadership qualities by reaching out to the IDPs, stressing that there were eight official and ten unofficial Camps for over two million IDPs in the state.
The Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi stated that he was in Benue to celebrate the yuletide with the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs and stressed that if given the mandate he would work hard to address all the issues that have made them to be displaced.
The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi later proceeded to Abagena IDPs Camp, Makurdi where he celebrated the 2022 Christmas and also sympathized with the over 2.5 million IDPs in Benue.
He assured the IDPs of security in the country if elected as President come 2023 and also donated Three Million Naira (3,000,000) as a package to celebrate with the IDPs.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary, of Benue State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Dr Emmanuel Shior who received the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi at the Abegena IDP's Camp appreciated him for the visit.
Dr Shior said Peter Obi is the only Presidential candidate that has visited the Benue IDPs to celebrate with them and share the pains they are passing through and appreciated his kind gesture.
