In the spirit of the 2022 Christmas and 2023 New Year celebrations, the Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Dr Sam Ominyi Egwu has felicitated with his constituents and Nigerians in general.
Senator Egwu also advised his Christian Community to imbibe the teachings and virtues that distinguished Jesus Christ while on earth while interacting with newsmen at his Umuebe country home, Izhia in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
According to the Senator, the birth of Christ brought about blessings, love, peace, hope and unity between God and man and those that accompanied his birth should reflect on Christians while commemorating the event of his birth. He added that this season is a time to ponder on the qualities of Christ and renew our covenant with God by upholding those virtues of love for one another, peace, care for others, joy, forgiveness, generosity, kindliness and oneness as exemplified by Christ while on earth.
"This celebration as we all know, calls for sober reflections on the reason for the season.
"I, therefore, encourage Christians to use this celebration to ponder and exhibit the teachings and outstanding qualities of Christ and the reason for him as a gift to mankind by God.
"Unarguably, the birth of Christ brought love, joy, peace and hope as well as unity between God and mankind. Those were godly virtues which formed the reason for the season.
"May I also, advise all my constituents and the generality of Ebonyi people to imbibe those virtues of love, joy, unity, peace, sincerity, forgiveness, generosity and kindness as they commemorate the birth of our saviour in line with His exemplary life," he said.
Senator Egwu who noted that security is one major challenge facing Nigeria at the moment especially as the 2023 general elections are a few months away, advised the youths not to allow themselves to be used as agents of destruction but to conduct themselves in a manner that will guarantee peace, security and freedom of franchise for better governance at all levels that will create jobs for the teaming population of jobless youths and ensure the security of lives and property.
"Coincidentally, this year's Christmas is coming at a time the political atmosphere is hitting up in preparation for general elections in the first quarter of next year, 2023.
"I plead with our youths not to allow themselves to be used as agents of destruction, but rather conduct themselves in a manner that will enthrone an atmosphere of peace and guarantee freedom of franchise which by implication will bring about good governance at all levels, create jobs and guarantee the security of lives and property," Egwu said.
