As part of activities to mark the grand finale of this year's Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State on Sunday laid a wreath in the cenotaph of the fallen heroes.
The event took place at Unity Square, Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State Capital.
Others who took their turns to lay the wreath were the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Francis Nwifuru represented by the Leader of the House, Honourable Victor Chukwu, the Chief Judge, Justice Elvis Ngene, Commissioner of Police, Garba Aliyu, Cantonment Commander, Nkwagu Military Cantonment, Lt. Col Atomode, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Ebonyi State, Captain Fidelis Ogodo retired, the Chairman, Ebonyi State Traditional Rulers Council, Chief Charles Mkpuma, and a representative of the Legion Widows, Mrs Ada Onum.
The Governor who on arrival inspected a guard of honour mounted by a detachment of the Nigeria Army, also released a pigeon, as a symbol of Peace.
The detachment later sounded a twenty-one-gun salute in honour of the fallen heroes.
The Governor afterwards signed a condolence register as a mark of respect to the gallant heroes.
