Pursuing his avowed determination to emerge victorious in the forthcoming 2023 general elections, the Senator representing Ebonyi North Zone in the National Assembly, Dr Sam Ominyi Egwu on Friday flagged off his campaign at Umuebe, Izhia in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.
The colourful event in preparation for the reelection of Senator Egwu was attended by the many PDP faithful across the wards and local government areas in Ebonyi North Senatorial District.
The stakeholders in attendance included Senator Ngiji Ngele, Chief Austin Igwe Edeze, Chief Chijioke Igwe Uwa, and Chief Julius Igbere, all the PDP candidates for the National and State Houses of Assembly from the zone, among others.
The people who reaffirmed their willingness to work assiduously and secure victory for PDP in the zone and Ebonyi state, in general, said the people of Ebonyi North deserve the best and cannot afford to lose the wealth of experience, passion, love and philanthropic virtues of Senator Sam Egwu in 2023.
They said Senator Egwu has exemplified his outstanding leadership disposition severally through the empowerment of youths, women, farmers and indigents, infrastructural developments, such as roads, street lights, distribution of transformers, construction of bridges and culverts, drilling of a hand pump and motorized boreholes, the building of schools, town halls, skill acquisition centres, as well as an award of scholarships to indigent students across the zone.
But above all, according to the speakers, his peaceful disposition as a true father in Ebonyi accounts for the level of stability in the state.
Responding, Senator Egwu said election is not won on the altar of violence, reminding his constituents that PDP has been, and will remain a peaceful party but will always win because it anchors its ideology on the welfare of the people.
On what he called the unguided comments by the incumbent Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi during the APC rally in 135 Ezzangbo, Ohaukwu Council Headquarters recently, which among others, he called for Egwu's step down from his senatorial race, Senator Sam Egwu described it as unfortunate that a governor who contested presidential primaries and failed woefully came down to his zone and snatched a senatorial ticket from a woman is calling on another person, from another zone and in a different Party to step down.
Egwu, the first Executive of Ebonyi State advised Governor Umahi to relinquish his senatorial ambition and return the ticket to Princess Ann Agom Eze who is the rightful owner to avoid the impending disgrace.
Senator Egwu described Umahi's decision as not only an imposition of his candidature on his party and the people but a violation of the right of Princess Ann Agom Eze as a woman, using his position as the governor.
It could be recalled that Umahi while in Ohaukwu Local Government Area during the APC rally openly confessed that Senator Egwu cannot be compared to Onyekachi Nwebonyi, the APC Senatorial Candidate for Ebonyi North Zone.
Senator Egwu wondered why Umahi who had placed him (Egwu) in a superlative position in the comparison with Nwebonyi turned round to ask the better Candidate to step down his contest, describing the unguided utterances by Governor as a true manifestation of his pang of confusion and urged the Ebonyi North people to ignore him.
