The ongoing campaign rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State took a different dimension today in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, as the governorship candidate, Pastor Umo Eno, in his usual charismatic mood, rendered different soul-lifting songs which charged the atmosphere with many raising their hands to heaven as if they were reminiscing about the November 2008 revival crusade in Akwa Ibom by the late Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke.
Pastor Eno whose spiritual flame was kindled by successive victories in pre-election litigations, especially the Appeal Court verdict which attested to his sincerity, integrity, and credibility, thrilled the mammoth 'congregation' who joined his rhythmic dance steps which synchronized with the white handkerchief that was gleefully waved in the air.
The governorship hopeful who intermittently punctuated the songs with words of thanksgiving said, "We thank God for the victories he has brought to Akwa Ibom State, we thank Him for the victory he has brought for the church of God, we thank Him for the victory He has brought to the PDP in our state. Let honour, glory, power, dominion, majesty and adoration be ascribed unto Him and Him alone forever and ever," and this was confirmed with a thunderous amen.
Speaking further, he said "We want to thank God for the judiciary, for doing what they ought to do. The Nigerian judiciary has proven that he who alleges, must prove beyond a reasonable doubt. We want to thank God because the judiciary has truly confirmed its status as the last hope of the common man. I support, the independence of the judiciary, and by the grace of God, we will join to enhance the welfare of the judiciary. Thank you so much for giving hope to the fatherless and helpless. What God has ordained, no man can change."
While alluding to the scriptures in Psalms 20:7, he said some trust in chariots and some in horses, but his trust is in the name of the Almighty God, adding that they, that trust in chariots and horses have been brought to their knees and have fallen, but God has continued to raise him.
He therefore, assured the people of Nsit Ibom that if elected in the forthcoming elections, the peace, security and development in the state will be furthered through divine guidance.
He promised to build an Agricultural hub, support entrepreneurs, engage youths, empower women, offer scholarships to brilliant students as well as upgrade their market.
The carnival-like event also featured different cultural displays, while the elders, women and youth trooped out in their thousands to receive, listen to and reiterate their willingness and readiness to vote for the "golden boy" for a guaranteed golden future for the state.
In their separate remarks, the political leader, Gen. Paul Isang ( Retd), Former speaker and chairman of the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), Rt Hon. Anietie Etuk, State House Member, Hon. If Udoh, former house member, Hon Serah Esitikot and the local government Chairman, who is also the State Assembly candidate, Hon. Eric Akpan assured everyone that Nsit Ibom has massively mobilized to ensure victory for Pastor Umo Eno and the PDP in all the 114 polling units of the area.
The event was attended by the state governor represented by his wife, the First Lady, Dr. (Mrs) Martha Udom, Deputy Governor, Mr Moses Ekpo, as well as the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and Uyo Senatorial Candidate, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, Etinan Federal House Candidate, Obong Paul Ekpo, Member representing Etinan Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Bar Onofiok Luke, and many leading lights of the PDP in the state.
