The member representing Afikpo North/South Federal Constituency, Ebonyi State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Iduma Igariwey at the weekend called on the state government to constitute a judicial panel of inquiry to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the mayhem in the Afikpo South local government area of the state which led to the killings of four persons including a seven-month pregnant woman and burning of valuable properties.
This was as he donated the sum of N5 million to the victims.
He urged the warring factions in the Ekoli-Edda in the local government which led to the mayhem to sheathe their swords and allow peace to reign.
Igariwey said that the Ebonyi State government needed to midwife a genuine reconciliation in the community, stating that no community, state or nation thrives in an atmosphere of fear, intimidation, killings and destruction of property and urged the government to constitute a judicial inquiry to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the problem.
The aim of the inquiry, according to him, would be to bring the masterminds of the crisis to book, ensure that justice is done to the dead, as well as to forestall a repeat in the future.
“It is not enough to detain one or two persons in what amounts to protective custody without getting to the root cause of the problem”, Igariwey said.
