Town Union Association (TUA)/ Independent Presidential Campaign Council (IPCC) on Monday paid a visit to the Ebonyi Gubernatorial Candidate of Labour Party (LP), Dr Edward Nkwegu at Ebonyi Liberation Campaign Council headquarters in Abakaliki.
Speaking during the visit, the President of the union, Evangelist Ude Zion Chijioke enjoined the Ebonyi people to canvass for the victory for Labour party candidates in the state.
Evangelist Ude stated that the union has good understanding with the 5G Governors, saying they are in every LGA down to ward level canvassing massive support and votes for the Labour Party candidates in the 2023 elections.
Responding, the state governorship flag bearer, Dr. Edward Nkwegu noted that "Obidient people are people of ideas and vision with ideological and philosophical strength that transcend ethnic, political platforms, religious and traditional boundaries."
He explained that "the Obidient people are courageous people whose target is to pull down the old structure of hunger, insecurity, unemployment, intolerance to enthrone a new order of tolerance, the production instead of consumption, employment instead of unemployment, peace and tranquillity in our dear state and our country Nigeria."
Earlier, Engr. Eze Obasi James, the Secretary of the union noted that the gesture was to prove those that say they are not in Labour Party wrong. He stressed that their supporting Peter Obi necessitated their being in the Labour Party to support and ensure victory for the party at the polls.
Engr. Exe further noted that the union stands in the gap to muster and galvanize voters.
He added that the national consultative forum inaugurated in August 2022 is in various LGAs and expressed the members' readiness to work for Dr Nkwegu and other Labour Party candidates in the 2023 elections.
He also stated that the union was integrated with the retired and serving civil servants in the state and they are in support of the Labour Party.
The Vice President of the union, Obinna Samuel Okorozi thanked the Gubernatorial Candidate of the Labour Party Dr Nkwegu and the leaders of the Town Union Association. Furthermore, he asked Dr Nkwegu to clear the air on the rumours that he is being sponsored by Governor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State.
Dr Nkwegu categorically stated that he has never been sponsored by Governor David Umahi both in the past, now and in the future and that he always remained a man of his word.
He further stated how Governor Nweze Umahi came to APC and turned everything upside down and excluded the people that welcomed him into the party.
The leader of Ebonyi state's main market Abakaliki, Eze Masha thanked the governorship candidate for the audience granted them. He further asked questions on what stalled the trade fair centre building at Presco junction and the International Market.
Nkwegu disclosed how the state government treated the projects with levity and refused to fulfil her part of the contract as some important documents are still awaiting approval plus debt to the tune of billions of naira owed the construction company.
The LP governorship hopeful in his wisdom narrated how his company handled lot 3 buildings in the International Market which is in full use, yet the Ebonyi State government refused to pay up the contractual sum despite the huge amount of money being generated on daily basis.
He enjoined the association to have rekindled the spirit of commitment to the mission and vision of the Labour Party to elect Peter Obi as President and himself as Governor of Ebonyi State with all other candidates of the Party in the forthcoming elections.
