The Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Dr Sam O Egwu on Thursday said that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP would overwhelmingly win the February and March 2023 general elections through persuasive and issue-based campaigns.
Egwu who will be standing for the National Assembly election on February 25, canvassed massive votes from the Ebonyi Local government Area to return to the Senate for the third term, expressing confidence that PDP would record a landslide victory through persuasion and not by intimidation to relaunch itself into the centre as the most populous party in West Africa.
"I plead with you, the people of Ebonyi Local government to sustain the tempo of support you have displayed for PDP and translate such love to votes on election day. You will not be disappointed for delivering me," he said.
The Federal lawmaker reminded party chieftains that the results of the forthcoming elections would be used to determine political appointments in the next dispensation.
He commended Ebonyi citizens for strongly believing in PDP as a credible platform to redeem the state from its socio-economic agonies as evidenced by the mammoth crowd that greeted the Atiku/Okowa presidential rally in Ebonyi State recently.
Egwu, the first Civilian Governor of Ebonyi State was full of gratitude to the people of Ebonyi Local Government Area for turning out massively to receive him and other candidates of the party stating that their warm speeches and solidarity were reassuring.
"You will not regret standing with PDP.
"I was worried when Umahi left PDP because I knew that Ebonyi people were comfortable and more relaxed with the party. I knew that to change their minds from following PDP will be difficult, thank God you have proved me right by remaining in PDP"
Speakers including the member representing Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency in the National Assembly Chukwuma Nwazunku, professor Adaeze Nwuzor, Chief Chijioke Uwa, Chief Godwin Nwode, Mike Nwebonyi among others reiterated confidence in the ability of Senator Sam Egwu to sustain effective representation of the zone if reelected.
They noted that their support for Egwu to go for third tenure stems from the fact that the Senate requires experienced and matured politicians like Egwu and not a political neophyte.
While assuring Senator Egwu of their massive votes, the PDP faithful prophesied that the lawmaker would emerge as the next president of the Senate.
"You will be elected the next Senate president because National Assembly members are graded according to their ranking and Sam is going back to the Senate for the third term," one of the Speakers said.
Our correspondent reports that immediately after the end of the rally, gunmen with two Sienna Buses invaded the venue of the rally and shot sporadically.
No life was lost but many of the shots were targeted at the building belonging to Michael Nwambam, a PDP stalwart at whose compound the rally was held.
